Brussels, 21 October 2026. The European project 5G-DiGITs, co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme, presented its objectives and activities during the event “Building Europe’s Future Skills: Erasmus+ Projects”, held in Brussels on 16 October as part of Erasmus Days 2026. The initiative highlighted the importance of developing advanced digital skills, fostering sustainable innovation and encouraging entrepreneurship to support Europe’s digital and green transitions.
Hosted at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) in Brussels, Belgium, and organised by Finnova, the event brought together representatives from European projects and organisations to explore how education, innovation and international cooperation can help equip current and future professionals with the skills needed to address emerging technological and environmental challenges.
Carolina Massara, EU Project Manager and Communication Officer at Finnova, a partner in the 5G-DiGITs consortium, presented the project and its role in addressing the growing demand for young professionals with advanced digital, green and entrepreneurial skills. She also introduced the 5G-DiGITs online knowledge-sharing platform and its accelerator programme.
The 5G-DiGITs learning platform is a free, open-access resource offering 16 courses developed by universities and technology organisations, real-world case studies on 5G, IoT, AI and sustainability, as well as forums, collaborative spaces and self-learning resources.
A central pillar of 5G-DiGITs is its four-month online accelerator programme, designed to support student-led start-ups and innovative business ideas in advanced 5G and green technologies. The accelerator includes expert guidance, networking opportunities, mentoring and a Final Demo Day; and follows a challenge-based approach, allowing participants to develop solutions to real-world problems proposed by five leading organisations from across Europe (Karlstads Kommun, Tieto Tech Consulting R&D, Malta Communications Authority, Opticoms GmbH, Turk Telekom). Teams may also join the programme with their own innovative ideas and benefit from the business support services offered.
Through these initiatives, 5G-DiGITs aims to bridge the skills gap in advanced digital and green technologies, strengthen cooperation between education and industry, and encourage an entrepreneurial mindset among the next generation of professionals. Its participation in Erasmus Days 2026 reaffirmed the importance of European cooperation in developing future-ready young talent and contributing to a more innovative, sustainable and competitive Europe.
