Valletta (Malta), 24 October 2025 — The consortium of the Erasmus+-funded project 5G-DiGITs held its 3rd Consortium Meeting in Malta from 21 to 23 October 2025, combining technical discussions, institutional visits, and networking with Malta’s innovation community.
The visit began at the Melita Data Center, hosted by Mr. Matthew Farrugia and organised by project partner A8, where participants explored Malta’s advanced 5G infrastructure. The consortium also visited the University of Malta – Faculty of ICT, welcomed by Prof. Carl Debono, Prof. Saviour Zammit, and Mr. Antoine Sciberras from the Malta Communications Authority, to discuss ways to strengthen collaboration between academia and industry in driving Europe’s digital and green transition.
The main consortium meeting took place at the Valletta Design Cluster, focusing on project progress, coordination, and impact planning. The day ended with a guided tour through Valletta’s historic centre, fostering cultural exchange among participants.
On 23 October, partners attended the Malta Startup Festival, organised by Malta Enterprise, which gathered startups, investors, and policymakers — including the Honourable Silvio Schembri, Minister for the Economy, Enterprise & Strategic Projects. Coordinated by Gonca Kara, Head of Projects & Ecosystems at A8, with support from EIT, the consortium showcased the 5G-DiGITs initiative and explored new collaboration opportunities in digital education and 5G innovation.
“The Malta Startup Festival was an excellent opportunity to promote the project and engage with Malta’s innovation ecosystem,” said Massimiliano Dragonni, Vice President of Finnova. “It demonstrated how European cooperation can turn education into a driver of technological transformation.”
“We are proud to have enabled the consortium’s participation in this vibrant event,” added Gonca Kara. “Malta is fast emerging as a hub for technology and entrepreneurship, and this experience helped us connect 5G-DiGITs with local innovators.”
Eirini Kordali, Project Manager at Envolve Entrepreneurship and project coordinator, concluded: “This meeting marked a key milestone for 5G-DiGITs, blending technical collaboration, cultural exchange, and innovation networking — all central to our mission of linking education, technology, and industry for a more digital and competitive Europe.”
